Freedom of the City involves taking an oath of loyalty and the Roll is then signed, the right hand of friendship is extended and the certificate of freedom is received.

Freemen of the Company may apply for Freedom of the City of London as follows:

Telephone the Clerk of the Chamberlain's Office in Guildhall (0207 332 3055) or his Deputy/Court Assistant (7332 1369/7332 1008) and advise him that you are Free of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and wish to make an appointment to attend and be duly sworn.

Take with you your birth certificate (it must be a "full" certificate which has the details of the exact place of birth and parents, not the "short" one).   Copies of the "full" certificate can be obtained from the Family Records Centre by telephoning (0845 6037788) or applying online at www.gro.gov.uk; a fee of £25.00 and a copy of the Freedom Certificate of the Company, duly signed by the Master and Clerk.

A married lady should provide a copy of her Marriage Certificate if she wishes to claim Freedom in her married name.   A lady who has divorced and not re-married should bring a copy of the decree absolute.   Naturalization papers are required for Naturalized British Subjects.

You can attend the ceremony quietly on your own or with family and friends.

Please note that the Clerk can act as Proxy for overseas members to complete the initial stages of the Freedom.

Please ensure that you have all of the documents with you when you arrive at the Chamberlains Court.
